Introduction: Make Your BBQ Grill Tools Magnetic

About: The team behind Sugru, the mouldable glue that makes fixing and making easy and fun. Do-ers of the world it's time to get excited. http://sugru.com

It's official – the sun is out, the birds are singing and the smell of barbecues are in the air. It's time to get that grill fired up! We've been looking through loads of awesome BBQ Grill 'ibles, like johnnybleg's classic BBQ Barrel and bennelson's Rocket Grill — then we had a thought...

What if we could make an easy way to store all your Grill utensils out of the way, but always within easy reach when you need them. With Sugru + magnets it's easy! And because Sugru sticks to almost anything you can store them right where you want — your wooden bench, your metal grill, or your brick wall.

Need to stock up on Sugru? Good timing, head over to our site for 15% off right now.

Step 1: Divide Your Sugru

One single use sachet of Sugru is enough to do this for each BBQ tool.

  • First off, open your pack and divide the Sugru into two pieces. Roughly 60/40 for this project.

Step 2: Attach Your Magnet

  • Take the larger of the two pieces of Sugru from your single-use sachet.
  • Pinch a small pea-sized piece and smudge it onto the surface that you want to stick the magnet. This will help create a base layer.

  • With the rest of the piece, build a pyramid on the back of your magnet and press it firmly against the smudged base layer.
  • Smooth around the edges using your finger for a neat finish.

Step 3: Create a Base Layer of Sugru

  • Take the smaller of the two pieces from your Sugru single-use sachet.
  • Again smudge a pea-sized amount of Sugru onto the surface of your BBQ tool

Top Tip: whether the handle is plastic, metal or wood – Sugru will stick to almost any surface!

  • Stick the remaining piece of Sugru onto the base layer and shape into a dome.
  • Smooth around the edges using your finger for a neat finish.

Top Tip: for a really smooth finish dip your finger in a little soapy water.

Step 4: Add a Penny Washer for Magnetic Contact

  • Press a magnetic penny washer into the Sugru

Top Tip: If you're in the UK, this also works with copper coins!

  • Use your finger to scrape away excess Sugru that has pushed through the middle.
  • Smooth around the edges using your finger for a neat finish.

Here's a quick video to show you how to apply Sugru to smooth surfaces.

Step 5: Time to Grill! (and a Little Something Extra)

  • In 24 hours you're good to go! Now all you have to do is decide what's on the menu.
