Tape Measure & Pencil Hack

I don't know about you but I always misplace my tape measure, pencil and notepaper when needing to take measurements.

I've figured out a way to combine all of these tools and tasks to be at my side all the time. Here goes...

Step 1: Tape Measure Hack

This one involves placing a piece of Formica on the face of the tape measure with the ability to right down measurements as they are taken so you won't have to remember them and no need for note paper.

Make sure you always use only a pencil so it can be wiped off.

• I got my white Formica as a sample from the local Home Depot in the kitchen counter coverings area. They are free by the way.

• Simple draw a circle the width of your tape measure label and cut it out with a band saw or jig saw. File the edges smooth.

• Then simple use strong double stick tape and trim to fit. Double stick carpet tape is a good choice (I had some laying around).

• Place the disc in the center of the label and you are done.

p.s. Use a sharpie to write the size of the tape measure some where on the metal housing. In my case it was a 16' tape.

Step 2: Pencil Hack

This one involves a pencil, a self retracting belt key holder and a piece of plastic tubing.

• Find a piece of plastic tubing that will snugly fit around the head of a pencil.

• Pinch the end of the plastic tubing and poke or drill a small hole.

• Replace the end of of the key holder with the plastic tubing.

• Stick the pencil in the plastic tubing and you are done.

Step 3: Conclusion

Now you have a tape measure note pad and pencil all at hand when taking measurements...if you remember to clip them to your belt in the first place.

This is a simple yet effective hack that will help improve your diy skills and impress your friends.
