Tea Light Holders for Christmas

Christmas, maybe one of the best periods of the year. We give presents to our loved ones and we spend more time together. A good opportunity to stay at home with friends and watch a movie next to the fireplace and light some candles... But wait! Candles? Hmmm, so we need candle holders, or tea light holders! Lets make some...

Tools And Materials Needed:

• 5 pcs of (5 x 5 cm) wood, any species would do!
• Band saw or scroll saw or jig saw
• Sandpaper 80, 100 and 120 grit
• Wood stain
• Spray lacquer
• 40 mm forestner bit
• Drill
• Utility knife
• Double sided tape
• Dremel (optional)
• Measure tape
• Ruler
• Pencil

Step 1: Plans

Print out the plans and with an utility knife separate each piece.

Step 2: The Wood Blocks

For the holders you will need five blocks of wood. You can use any species of wood you like.

Dimensions of the blocks from left to right:

1. 12,5 x 5 x 5 cm
2. 16 x 5 x 5 cm
3. 20 x 5 x 5 cm
4. 15 x 5 x 5 cm
5. 10.5 x 5 x 5 cm

Cut all the pieces with your saw and proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Cutting Out the Shapes

Use some double sided tape to stick the templates on the wood blocks. Then on your band saw or with your jig saw carefully cut out the shapes.

Step 4: Sanding, Sanding...

Use a rotary tool if you have one to smooth out any rough edges and inside the shapes to get a smooth surface. You can also use a wooden dowel and wrap around it a piece of sandpaper and use it to smooth out the curves inside the shapes. To smooth out any straight surfaces you can also use a strip of wood or other material and again wrap around it a piece of sandpaper. At the end of this step you should have something like this.

Step 5: More Sanding

Make sure you round all the edges around the wooden blocks.

Step 6: Marking the Holes

We need to make a hole on the top of each block so we can put our tea light in it. Mark the center of each block with a ruler and a pencil.

Step 7: Last Step

Drill a hole on each block for the tea light and you are done!

Now you can paint your holders the way you prefer or just stain them and apply two coats of spray lacquer on them to protect them.
