Thread Organizer

I love to craft, I spend all my free time either thinking on what to make next or crafting. It´s so relaxing to me, so I spend as much time as I can crafting (and I wish I had more time, though). On the other hand, organizing is not something I like to do, as a mom of a baby I feel that all day long I´m cleaning up messes, so that´s the last thing I want to do on my free time.

If you love to craft but don´t love to declutter, this is the perfect instructable. Try making this craft, that will decorate your craft room and keep your threads nice and tidy.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

You will need:

• Old tray
• 1.3 meters cove molding
• 2" nails (38 pieces)
• Primer spray paint
• White spray paint
• Cutting box
• Hand saw
• Set square
• Glue silicone sealant / hot glue gun
• Measuring tape
• Hammer
• Pen
• Driller
• Sander

Step 2: Measure Tray

First of all you need to plan your design. Measure the tray and figure out how many rows of threads you can fit in. Keep in mind the threads usually are 5.5 cm tall. You need to space the rows evenly.

Also measure the width of the tray.

Step 3: Measure Molding

Now measure the molding and make marks according to the width of the tray.

Measure and mark as many pieces as needed. Mine will have 5 rows.

Step 4: Cut Molding

With the handsaw cut the molding.

Step 5: Sand Molding

If you have a sander you can sand the the edges in no time. Or you can use sandpaper, lay it on a flat surface, grab the molding and rub it against the sandpaper.

Step 6: Drill Molding

Now make marks every 3 cms. Then drill the molding, mine are spaced the drill bit should be slightly thicker than the nails.

Step 7: Insert Nails

Insert the nails through the holes you just made with the drill.

Step 8: Seal Nails

To prevent the nails from moving, I glued the tip of each nail.

Step 9: Glue Molding With Nails in Tray

Now, using the silicon glue, glue each piece of molding in the tray. Read the instrucions and wait for the glue to harden.

Step 10: Primer

Mine needed two coats of primer, because I´ll paint it white. If you are using a darker color you can use only one coat.

Step 11: Paint

Spray paint with the color that better matches your decoration. I like it white because it makes all the colorful threads stand out.

Step 12: Organize Threads and Hang

Finally hang your new thread organizer, using a tray like this will make it look fancy and the handles make it easy to hang.
