Tile coasters make an inexpensive holiday gift that you can personalize for your recipient.

Step 1: Select Your Tiles

Select your tiles from your local hardware store. These come in many sizes and colors. I have found that the stone tiles, though textured, provide the most durable and cost effective. You will need one tile for each coaster.

Step 2: Select Your Prints

You can use anything to personalize the top of your coasters. If the person is part of some special memories, use some photos. If you would like to add pops of color, pick some fun scrapbooking paper, stickers... the sky is the limit.

Step 3: Trace Your Tiles

Flip the tile on the back side of your paper/photo. Trace around your tile with a pen or marker.

Step 4: Cut

Cut on the lines and then place your paper on the tile to check and make sure it fits your tile.

Step 5: Glue

Instead of glue, use Mod Podge. Place a thin layer of Mod Podge on the tile using a paint brush or foam brush. DO NOT glob on the Mod Podge. Place your decoration on the tile and paint on another thin layer of the Mod Podge. Let this dry15-20 mins and place another coat on the top of the decoration.

Step 6: Clear Coat

After your tile is totally dry, you will want to spray on a clear coat to seal the tile. Because the coasters will have a lot of chance to get wet, this step will be imperative in keeping your design in tact and beautiful. Spray just the top of the tile as it will not hurt the tile to get wet. Make sure you do this step in a well ventilated area.

Step 7: Dry and Enjoy.

Allow your tile to dry a few hours. Though your tile will be dry to the touch, it will take a few hours to cure fully. If you would like to further scale your design, place small felt pads on the back corners of your coaster to keep the table safe.
