Introduction: Turn a Bottle Into a Nifty Match Holder

I recently finished a bottle of gin and ran out of matches at the same time. Now, before I get a reputation as being a vagrant, the gin was for a cocktail party we held, and the matches are for candles ;)

Match boxes are ugly and I bought a hefty 3-pack of 250 matches (per box, that is) so I wanted a way to have my matches on my desk without looking at a crappy cardboard box.

Step 1: Collect Your Supplies

This list is huge:

-Matches
-Empty bottle
-Superglue
-Scissors, a blade, or your sharp wit.

Step 2: Insert the Matches

If you can conquer this step, the rest of the instructable will be easy. Toss all those matches into the bottle.

Step 3: Cut a Square From the Side of the Match Box.

Cut a square the size of the top of the bottle cap. You may have to cut it circular if you don't have a super-cool bottle with a square cap.

Step 4: Glue the Striking Square to the Bottle Using Superglue

..Or anything else that can affix cardboard to glass.

Step 5: Hooray! Bottle Is Complete!

Bask in the glory of your cool looking match bottle.

Step 6: Light That Sucka

All right, matches can't be suckas, but try it out to make sure the strikepad stays in place.

What's nice about having the strikepad on the cap is that you don't need to carry the whole bottle with you to light something across the room. Or in your roommate's room. Or your roommate.

Speaking of, my roommate is the one who suggested the benefit of the cap over the bottle. He told me to take credit for it but I just can't do it with a clean conscience. So, credit goes to Tom for that outstanding thought. Hooray, Tom!

Step 7: Save the Other Strikepads!

Strikepads wear down after awhile, so make sure you keep the other ones in case you need to remake the cap with a fresh one.
