When my flatmate's dad decided to drop the box containing all of my mugs onto the ground, I was quite amazed that only one of them broke (this is mainly due to my amazing skills with newspaper and wrapping things up). Unfortunately it was one of my very favourite mugs. It was in the shape of a flower pot and the handle had a little gnome sitting on top of it. It was truly the kitchest thing I owned and I loved it!

Instead of throwing the whole mug into the bin and getting into a strop for days I decided to salvage what I could and turn it into something more practical than before. This is what I came up with...a handy way of not loosing the keys to my bin store.

Step 1: You Will Need:

A broken mug (with the handle still in one piece)
A hammer
A nail
A bunch of keys

Step 2: What You Need to Do

I was fortunate enough to find out that the handle of my most prised mug was actually hollow. I carefully broke away the bits of ceramics that surrounded the handle with a hammer which left a little ridge at the bottom, perfect for hanging a key ring on without it falling off. I bashed a nail into the wall and balanced the top part of the handle onto it. With the weight of the keys dangling down from the bottom point it gave enough force on the centre of gravity to make it balance perfectly and stick out at a 90 degree angle from the wall. It makes for an interesting feature and something for guests to puzzle over for at least a good 10 minutes before they figure out what it is and how it works.
