I love whimsy and repurposing. These bright and beautiful tea cups make perfect "very merry unbirthday" daffodil garden ornaments.

Step 1: Collect Your Materials

The wine bottles were from our recycling bin. The tea cups and saucers were thrifted from www.shopgoodwill.com. The copper pipe and conduit were from the Habitat for Humanity Restore. ($2 for the lot. Score!) We also used Gorilla Glue and hot glue as a belt and suspenders let's-be-absolutely-sure-this thing-doesn't-fall-apart solution.

Step 2: Assemble

First, pair up cups with saucers to create pleasing color combinations. To glue the cups to the saucers, dip a finger in water and wet the bottom edge of a cup (Gorilla Glue works best in the presence of water). Apply Gorilla Glue and then add a bead of hot glue over top of the Gorilla Glue. Place the tea cup onto a saucer. Let it dry for an hour or two.

The thing that kept this project on hold for a while was trying to figure out how to attach the saucer onto a stick. I could have drilled a hole through the saucer, but that would likely result in a couple of broken saucers and frankly sounded like too much work. Then I saw a picture of a coffee pot wind chime (http://www.hometalk.com/559887/vintage-coffee-pot-wind-chimes) and had my answer.

To glue the cup/saucer onto the bottom of a wine bottle, first stabilize a wine bottle by placing it upside down in a tumbler or other object that it fits into snugly. Then, dip a finger in water and wet the bottom of the wine bottle. Apply Gorilla Glue and then add a bead of hot glue over the top of the Gorilla Glue. Place an assembled cup/saucer, saucer side down, onto the bottom of the wine bottle.

Alternatively, you could place an assembled cup/saucer cup-side down and place the gluey bottom of the wine bottle to the bottom of the saucer. It all depends on whether or not the saucer sits flat--you don't want the wine bottle to slide to one side. Or maybe you do?

Let the cup/saucer/bottle assembly dry for an hour or two.

Step 3: Install and Enjoy

Installation couldn't be easier. Simply take copper pipe or conduit of varying lengths and pound them into the ground. (I used a hammer, but the ground was quite damp. You may want to use a scrap piece of wood and mallet.) Then slide the neck of the wine bottle part of the assembly over the pipe. Stand back and enjoy your colorful new daffodil garden accessories!
