Introduction: Veteran Memorial Christmas Ornament

I produced this ornament to honor veterans during the holidays. So many of our Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, and Coasties are overseas at the moment toiling for us. We should all keep them in our thoughts during this holiday season. Their are 4 F-22(s) in a "Missing Man" formation. I painstakingly designed each element of this ornament using Sketchup with many add ons (Solid Inspector, TTLib2, STL Export). I would not recommend designing in Sketchup if you access to a better CAD software I would recommend you use that.

I found an engineering diagram online of the F-22. I imported it into Sketchup and traced all six sides of the engineering diagrams I then extruded and intersected the faces. I then cleaned up the faces and vertices.

For the flag portion of the ornament I used Sketchup, the union jack and red stripes are offset by 0.2mm to slide in to place.

Step 1: Print Out the F-22 Jets

Print 4 of the jets, one at a time on your 3D printer using the following settings:

Layer height: 0.1mm

Infill: 30%

Shells: 1

Turn on supports

Step 2: Clean Off F-22 Prints Using an Exacto Knife

Clean off the excess of the 4 prints using an exacto knife. When you are finished your print should be able to fit a piece of 1.75mm filament in the mount hole on the underside of the jet.

Step 3: Print the Other Ornament Pieces

Print the other ornament pieces in the appropriate colors.

Model:

Stripes - Red

Union Jack - Blue

Ornament base - While

I printed these using the following settings:

Layer height: 0.3

Infill: 30%

Shells: 2

Step 4: Assembly

All the pieces of the flag ornament should slide together. Coat the bottoms of the pieces with a little bit of super glue.

Cut a few pieces of clear 1.75mm filament and bend them into shape.

For the missing man formation should beas such:

Hole 1: Slighly back from Hole 2

Hole 2: In the very front

Hole 3: Should be even with Hole 1 but taking off as a salute

Hole 4:Slightly back from Hole 3

Super glue the filament into the ornament and into the jet

In the middle hole on top add a christmas tree hook that can be bought at any big box store.

Step 5: Done

Enjoy your ornament.
