Introduction: Wakko Warner Crochet Doll

It's time for Aaaanimaaaaniacs!

Say hello to everyone's favorite zany glutton, Wakko Warner! This was my favorite show growing up-- both hilarious and at times very educational! Here you will find the pattern for Wakko, with a few notes on how to modify this to make a Yakko.

This doll is made with crochet, and I assume a basic knowledge of that throughout this pattern. (SERIOUSLY though, I learned from YouTube, so anyone can learn it!) Please let me know if you have any questions or need help!

Lastly, please please PLEASE get a life!! ...or vote for me in the Soft Toys contest! ;)

Step 1: Materials

Yarn - Cheapo Red Heart Super Saver in Red, Black, White, and Aqua Blue

Some black felt

Tapestry needle

Two 9 mm animal snap-on safety eyes

Needle and thread for sewing felt

Crochet Hook

*I used an H-8, but I crochet SUPER TIGHT. I'd suggest a size F hook.

Special Instructions –
o Wherever you see “inc”, that stands for “increase” and means you should make TWO in the next stitch. They will be marked as sc, hdc, or dc inc depending on the stitch used. o Wherever you see “dec”, that stands for “decrease” and means you should decrease over the next two stitches. They will be marked as sc, hdc, or dc dec depending on the stitch used. Any decreases over three or more stitches will be marked, and you can use invisible decreases pretty much anywhere (if you know how to do those.) o The total numbers of stitches will be listed at the end of the row, like this: (# sts)

Cut two slightly uneven ovals of black felt and sew them in place for eyes. Once eyes, nose, and mouth are all complete, sew white face to the front of the head with a tapestry needle. Right before you finish sewing and have a small hole left, lightly stuff the nose and face.

-end off, leaving long tail. Sew brim to back of hat (opposite side of ear holes).

The big end of the ears will NOT fit through the ear holes of the hat. Put on the hat and sew the ears on through the ear holes. Then sew down the rest of the hat with the red tail of the hat (AFTER the white face is done and on!). The hat should come down over the white eye bumps, but a bit of black should be visible between them!

Collar

1) Finish last st of head with blue, (sc 2 in next st, sc 4) in FLO around (18)

2) sc around

3) (sc 2 in next st, sc 5) around (21)

18) sc around in FLO

19-20) sc around (twice)

21) sl st around in FLO

-end off, weave in tail

Step 5: Hands, Arms, Sleeves, Attaching Arms, and Final Details

Hand (Type 1) (make 2)

Okay, so the hands are a bit confusing. They’re EASY, but the pattern is all jumble-y. So! I will write the full-blown jumble first, and then follow it with a much simplified synopsis.

-ch 5 with white

1) hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (4)

2) ch 2 (does NOT count as hdc, so you will need to crochet in last st of previous round), hdc in last from prev, hdc, ch 5, turn

3) hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 3 along ch, hdc in the 2 hdc sts from previous round, do NOT crochet in the ch 2 space, turn (6)

4) ch 2, hdc in last from prev, hdc 2, ch 5, turn

5) hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 3 along ch, hdc in the 3 hdc sts from previous round, do NOT crochet in the ch 2 space, turn (7)

6) ch 2, hdc in last from prev, hdc 2, ch 4, turn

7) hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 2 along ch, hdc in the 3 hdc sts from previous round, do NOT crochet in the ch 2 space, turn (6)

-end off, leaving long tail

Synopsis

1) hdc 4

2) hdc 2, ch 5

3) hdc 6

4) hdc 3, ch 5

5) hdc 7

6) hdc 3, ch 4

7) hdc 6

Hand (Type 2 – Reverse!) (make 2)

Because I’m a perfectionist, I like to have the same side of my crochet sticking out on both sides of the hand so it looks the same. This means that I can’t make 4 of the same piece- two of them need to be in reverse. If you don’t care about perfectionism, skip this and make four type 1 hands. (It’s not hard, though, just the type 1 hand starting from the pinky end, not the thumb end.)

-ch 7 with white

1) hdc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (6)

2) ch 2 (does NOT count as hdc, so you will need to crochet in last st of previous round), hdc in last from prev, hdc 2, ch 5, turn

3) hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 4 along ch, hdc in the 3 hdc sts from previous round, do NOT crochet in the ch 2 space, turn (7)

4) ch 2, hdc in last from prev, hdc 3, ch 4, turn

5) hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc 2 along ch, hdc in the 3 hdc sts from previous round, do NOT crochet in the ch 2 space, turn (6)

6) ch 2, hdc in last from prev, hdc, ch 3, turn

7) hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc along ch, hdc in the 2 hdc sts from previous round, do NOT crochet in the ch 2 space, turn (4)

-end off, leaving long tail

Synopsis

1) hdc 6

2) hdc 3, ch 5

3) hdc 7

4) hdc 3, ch 4

5) hdc 6

6) hdc 2, ch 3

7) hdc 4

Finishing the hands

Put a type I and type II hand same-sides-together, and sew together using a tail from either side. Once that’s done you’re going to crochet around the bottom rim of the glove, so…

1) Join white anywhere in the bottom rim of the glove with a sl st. Sc 16 evenly around (put sts wherever, but try and make it about 8 for each side)

2) (sc dec, sc 2) around (12)

3) sc around in FLO

4) sc around

End off, and roll up the last two rounds. Use tail to sew roll if it won’t stay.

Arm

1) Join black anwhere in an used back loop from round 3 of the gloves with a sl st, and sc 12 around

2-7) sc around (7 times total)

End off

Sleeves (make 2)

-ch 24 with blue and join with sl st in first ch to make a ring

1) (sc dec, sc) around (16) do not join, do not turn! Spiral time!

2) sc around and sc dec once somewhere random (15)

3) sc around

4) sc around and sc dec once somewhere random (14)

5) sc around

6) sc around and sc dec once somewhere random (13)

7) sc around

8 ) sc around and sc dec once somewhere random (12)

9) sc around

10) Jam the arm into the sleeve and sc around going through the 12 sts of BOTH the sleeve and the arm

11-13) sc around (in sleeve only) (3 times total)

14) sc dec around (6)

End off, leaving long tail. Put plastic snap-on eye (the eye piece) in the sleeve and stick the post out between rows 13 and 14 in a spot where the thumb will be facing forward when it is attached. Push post through sweater, right underneath the collar, and CHECK THAT BOTH ARMS LOOK GOOD ON BEFORE YOU SNAP THE WASHERS! It is IMPOSSIBLE to remove safety snap-on eyes after you snap them, so be careful about where you put the arms! You only get one chance to do this step!

When the arms are on securely, use the tail from the sleeve to cinch the sleeve opening shut.

Final Finishing

Once all the bits and pieces of the top (face, ears, hat, arms) are sewn/snapped on, the tail is sewn on the body, and everything is stuffed very well, use the long black tail from the body and sew the last round of sts from the body to the unused back loops of the bottom of the sweater.
