How to make witches potions for Halloween.

I tried to use objects that could be found around the house to keep cost to a minimum.

You will need:

A variety of different shaped jars and bottles ( some with lids)
Some corks for the tops of the bottles (If they haven't got lids)

For the Labels you'll need:

Paper
Coffee or Tea
A candle
PVA glue
Water

For the Dust you will need:

Flour
Powdered charcoal or coal
(Optional) A spice i.e. cinnamon
PVA Glue

Step 1: Making the Labels

1.Think up some potion names, like Ogre's Snot or Dead Man's Toe. Now you can do one of two things you can either write the potion names on the paper using a fountain pen or you can print the labels of using a word processor and select a font like French Script MT.

2.Cut the labels out and then singe the edges with the flame of a candle (be careful not to burn yourself)

3.Now mix stir some coffee with some water (I used coffee because I think it looks better but you can use tea if you want).
Submerge the label in the coffee until all of the paper is stained

4.Place in a roasting tin and place in the oven at 180 oC for 30 secs ( you can also use a hair dyer but the oven gives the label a bronzed look)
Remove from the oven using oven gloves. Assuming they are dry, use a thin blade to remove them from the roasting tin.

Step 2: Attaching the Label

1. Now make a PVA paste by mixing water and PVA glue

2. Pick a jar and place the label on it. Holding the label in place with one hand, use your other hand to smooth a thin layer of PVA paste of the label until it holds its place.

3. Leave to dry before moving on to the next step

Step 3: Making Dust

This is easy to make just take some flour and the powdered coal and mix them together. This should form a grey powder.
You can add spices to make it smell nice but it is your choice.

Step 4: Adding the Dust

1. Take the jar and thinly apply some PVA avoiding the label. (Don't completely cover in PVA as the dust will restrict the view of what's inside.)

2. Take the dust and sprinkle it all over the jar. Then knock it gently on the a stable surface so that any excess dust comes off.

3. Now leave to dry

Step 5: Finally

Now that you have finished the jars you can put what you want in them. Here's some ideas to help:

Coloured water
Candles
Twigs and leaves
Jelly
Other decorations like eyeballs or bones
