Any idea for recycling an old compressed natural gas cylinder?

It was in the waste, I recovered it.
  • weights 34 kg (75 pounds)
  • diameter 24 cm (9.4 inches)
  • length 80 cm (31.5 inches)
  • capacity 30 liters (7,9 gallons),
  • working pressure 200 bar (2900 PSI).
  • hemispherical ends
  • medium hard steel
Maybe I could make a crucible for melt aluminum, copper, etc, cutting 15 cm from the bottom. But for this it is a little big.

I am waiting some suggestion. Thanks in advance!

You can make an air cannon if you have an air compressor. If it's still a good pressure vessel, then you can use it for almost anything! You might not want to pressurize it to full capacity though...

Rinse it out with water and cut the bottom off. It's would make an excellent bowling ball mortar. They're a blast!
Here's an example...

Really? The only expense I can see is the cost of a saw blade and a couple pieces of old pie for legs. Gun powder is really cheap and bowling balls are only $3 at a thrift store.

I made a crucible for casting aluminum out of one. The left over I call my super heavy duty funnel. Taking the valve out was very difficult as I can recall. They really put those things in there!

I would not do this for anyone else but for you I will dig it out and take a picture of it.

Using it I found if I roll the handle around it positively locks in place for pouring. But that design element was pure dumb luck.

I made it out of a very small oxidizer cylinder. The outside diameter is 13.3 cm so about half the size of 24 cm You are lucky I have two. I am too tired now to dig out the first one to measure.

24 cm may be too big. Might be good to make a casting flask out of though. There is an idea!

Least then you wouldn't have to lift it with molten metal in it right?

If nothing else comes to mind, you can always cut pieces from it to use as steel for other projects, even if you need to pound some of the pieces flat first.

Make a gong, bell, or wind chime. I've seen some really nice deep-toned chimes made from discarded oxygen tanks.
