Anyone know where to buy something like this?

So a few friends and I are making a Semi-AI robot. By "semi" I mean it cannot think on it's own. It can only do what it's programmed to. We were wonder if anyone knew a link to purchase a voice recorder that plays set responses depending on what you say into the mic. (Ex: I say "Hello" and it responds with "Hey!" or whatever we program it to respond with. We aren't looking for anything super fancy or expensive, because we want to stay money-efficient. We currently are still planning, and we have all the materials we need, but we cannot find this one item! I'm hoping that someone on this site might know where to get one! Hope this explains enough on what we need! Thanks!

Voice recognition costs a lot of money and takes some computing power. There is all kinds of voice recognition software available for PCs. You would just have to write a program to interface with the software and look for specific words or phrases so you can have your pre-recorded responses played back.

do you happen to know any links to software downloads?
This is some of the best speech recognition software available.

Where you go from there and how you utilize it in your build is up to you.

Sparkfun do a speaker-independent voice recognition module which looks like it's what you're after.  You would have to add a speech module to convert the codes it produces into speech output.  The Speakjet this is based on does give a very robotic sounding voice though.
No, you'd have to make your own. Voice recognition COSTS, either time or money.

Would you happen to know how to build one, or know someone willing to build one and sell it to us?
How much are you prepared to pay ???

probably no more than $100... I don't know if that's enough or not even close...
