CPU Upgrade????? PLEASE REPLY!!!

Hi all. I am looking to upgrade my CPU cooler in my pc. Mycurrent cpu is a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz. My Motherboard is an Asus P5KPL-AM-EPU. I am trying to decide whether to buy a Pentium Dual-Core E6500, or a Core 2 Duo E7600. I USUALLY buy from CircuitCity because of their prices. Again, my choices are:

Pentium Dual-Core E6500
Core 2 Duo E7600

I want something BETTER than the Pentium 4, but I dont want to spend much more than 200 dollars, preferably.. closer to 120 or so.. I know that those prices are CHEAP for a CPU, but well.. I dont have the money for a NEW pc, or a Core 2 Quad or expensive Core 2 Duo. If you're wondering why I dont have the money for a new pc or a more expensive CPU, Its because im 12. :D PLEASE REPLY ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

For $200 you can buy a better motherboard and a Quad core CPU.

What you need to do is:
Look up your mainboard on the internet (or find a manual) - what socket is it?
Also, what clocking-arrangements / FSB does it do?
Then - what socket / clock etc are these things I'd like to put in there?

I know all that.. I should've mensioned it. Lol. its LGA 775. Well, in CPU-Z, it says its rated for 800Mhz, but its AT 200Mhz. the board is an Asus P5KPL-AM EPU Motherboard. Please lemme know what you're thinking.. I wish is had the money for a new pc. :D PLEASE REPLY ASAP!

Hi, it's 04:41 and I'm not dressed - ASAP enough?
Those look good to go (see what I found while checking http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/P5KPL-AM_EPU.html)
I'm not seeing a great deal of difference between the two - I guess if your price is good it's just down to that?
However, how much improvement will you see? A new graphics card & RAM might give you a similar improvement.
Also, do ask around people you know, sometimes friends have spare bits because they've done similar upgrade jobs themselves

i am going to go with the Core 2 Duo. I just need to decide which one... because i'm not so sure about the E6500

AM or PM ?
The Pentium Dual Core runs at a slower frequency and a lower L2 cache,it is generally considered a budget chip. However it is 30% cheaper and only 5-10% slower than your other choice.Just a personal note,I picked up a Quad Core 8800 for 40$ on E-Bay,food for thought.
good luck
