Can I copy an operating system?

If I build my own computer is there way that I can copy an operating system (such as Vista) on a blank DVD from a computer that already is running Vista and install on the built computer, and save money. Or do I have to buy the disk and then install it. Thanks,

I DO NOT ADVISE YOU DO THIS! IT IS ILLEGAL. COMPANIES LIKE MICROSOFT HAVE INTERNET "SPIES", SO THAT IF YOU CONNECT A COMPUTER WITH THIS BAD OS, THEY CAN DETECT IT IS ILLEGAL AND FIND YOU.
Where did you find this?

Disregarding the legality of this - Norton Ghost will bit copy a hard drive.

Well I guess the safe way to go is to just buy a disk. Oh well to bad. Thanks for telling me about this.

When you buy an OS it is only legal to use it on one computer, Sure you could do it but it is illegal, But then again screw it, Also you can not make an installation CD from an already installed OS.

you can take the hard drive from your old computer, and install it in your new computer. Ghosting will not work too well, because of driver issues.

You can download the beta release ofWindows 7 Ultimate which will run until March 2010. I've recently installed this on a netbook and I Love it.
It took a lot to get me away from XP (I hated Vista), but this has done it.
If you've used Vista, Windows 7 is quicker, slicker and lighter.

You can "Ghost" the disk, look for ghost image software
(I offer nothing in the way of knowledge about anything Microsoft may have incorporated into Vista to stop you doing this successfully)
