Can I use my website url as a server name? (Minecraft)

I want to know if I could make a website with and have that url be used as my server IP for Minecraft. I'm interested in doing this because I wouldn't have to run Minecraft_Server.exe whenever I want it running. Please reply with any info about this or tips.

So I can't ping my website for the IP? What if it had its own database encrypted into the website (to send and receive memory).
no, you either run the server program on the web host, or you run it locally, either way, it is running - regardless of how you have your ip redirected from a hostname.
If you are hosting a server, you need to have the minecraft server program running. As for having a .com address point to the server instead of giving out the ip of the server, it can be done, but you will have to look on the minecraft forums for the specifics.

If your online server will allow you to run custom servers (read: a minecraft server) then it will work. If it's just personal webspace, 99% likely they won't allow it.

You either need minecraft_server running locally, or have a machine dedicated to the task.
