Can an IDE hdd be replaced with a SATA hdd (both internal)?

I have a pentium 4 pc whose hdd recently crashed, this had this 40GB IDE hard disk, now a days u IDE's arent available in market so i was thinking is it possible to connect an internal SATA hardisk to the same port where the IDE was connected? i  mean will it work fine without any problems?
Or any other solution to my problem?

It won't plug straight in, but you can get an adapter to plug a new SATA drive into the IDE socket or one of the PCI slots. Alternatively, there are a couple of sellers on ebay stocking refurbished IDE drives for under £20

Several ways to do it. Just pick the one you can afford and gives the best results.

Hey these are some images. Can you let me know whether my pc has a SATA port or no?
If you can give me the model number and manufacturer of your motherboard I will try to find out if it has any sata ports.
