Can anyone help me troubleshoot a non-responsive RGB SMD5050 LED strip which keeps flashing rapidly in blue colour?

I have recently bought a 5m strip of RGB SMD5050 300LED strip together with a 12v controller and remote control. I have cut and soldered this LED strip into numerous small parts, as suitable for my application (as additional car lights). However on powering up this LED strip, its colour is blue which keeps flashing at a fast rate (almost a strobe-like effect). This keeps going on, not responding to the commands on the remote control.

Since this is my first time working with LEDs, I am unable to troubleshoot this problem. Would anyone be able to guide me please?

any luck Darmic? I'm new to the lights and I'm having the same issue. Only difference is that I've only used the solder less-clips. Mine are strobing between blue and green only. I'm starting to think that the controllers are super easy to fry... I've made a few projects and they have all failed including the rest of the strip... The attached photo is a home made lamp and the colors in this used to change no problem. USED to...

Did you test it before you cut it up? Always, always always, power things on and test them and make sure they are working before you do any customizing.

If they did work but do not now there are several possibilities. The control is designed to pick up where it was last. So if you had the lights on red full then when it powers on again it will go to Red full. If it was set to blink blue it will not change from that until the remote tells it to.

If you never turned it on before then it is going to the last setting it had from the factory. In this case check first the remote. Make certain you took the insulating film out so the battery is in and making contact. Test the battery and see if it is still good. If the battery is good then point the remote at the IR sensor and make sure its not turned around backwards. Hit the power button first. They should respond if everything is hooked up and working correctly.

I have the same lights and was just looking up more info on how to program the remote. There are several youtube videos that show how.

Yes, everything worked fine before I cut and soldered.

I think I may have discovered what went wrong. Probably my inappropriate soldering caused a short circuit between red and green wires, frying up the controller (hence the pattern got stuck onto flashing blue). In fact, when I dismantled the controller and exposed its circuit board, the red and green wires were burned and de-soldered.

I tried bypassing the controller (connecting the LED strip directly to a battery: LED + with battery +, and R, G, B in turns to battery -). It turned out that only blue lit up the whole strip; red and green lit up less than half the strip (each to a different level).

I have ordered a new controller and clip-on strip connectors in order to de-solder everything and start again, hopefully solving the soldering/short circuit problem.
