Can glass WOOL be used instead of a glass MAT in combination with resin to make a cast from something?

I'm planning to make a chair model, which I would then cover in glass mats and resin to make a cast. But I was wondering whether glass wool could be used instead. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, what resin should be applied?

If you're using it for strength then, no. It's not very strong. The fiberglass mat that is used is very strong and durable. The glass wool used in insulation if not very strong at all and a handful can be torn easily. If using fiber glass mats then you should use fiber glass resin designed for that product. I know it's expensive but it's worth it if you need the strength.

The length of the fibres in wool is very short, so they don't work very well in reinforcement.

FYI short fibers are used when spraying fiberglass rather than laying it.
