the secert is that you really can but it highly technical plus very confusing so simply you can plus there are people who make ahem their cough internet modem or etheir turn a computer into a internet modem and use that computer to a laptop or cough or so then connet to the internet or another thing you can do is useing a wireless uplink to upload internet data from one place like somthing that open to the public to your computer cough plus a lot of more ways cough cough can't gurrentte its legal cough.

If you want free access, find somewhere (public place) that gives you free access, like a library, school, college, uni, coffee-shop (WiFi)? Other than that you're short on free options.

I am trying to find out how to connect a server with out an isp. Of course free is good , but I am not liking the tiers that some isp's are starting to use and wish to eliminate the need for an isp. Of course there will be cost involved but with tiers believe that we all should be able to go anywhere and do anything(legal) while on the internet and should not be restricted by the isp.
The only way to connect directly to the internet is to connect directly to an internet exchange point. I doubt they'd let you do that unless you're an ISP.
You can become your own ISP in some regions (depending on what products and services are available)... but you're still paying the phone company for a special line, buying special hardware, and generally running into new expenses on a daily basis. I.e. It's not cheap. If you're lucky... someone in the neighborhood is sharing wireless connections. If not, head to the coffee shop or a library.
No, at least not as a casual user. The internet is made up of a bunch of interconnected routers, and networks. When you visit a website, the information is sent across several networks until it reaches its destination. Your ISP is dirrectly connected to other ISPs and networks & is responsible for the web traffic between them. In order for you to connect to the internet, you are going to have to connect to some other network, and if that network is not an ISP, than it is connected to an ISP.
I believe such things are possible by climbing the tower, but are not legal. If your Laptop or Computer has wireless internet jut use the neighbours (open) access point. Thats not as dangerous as climbing a pole, and unless your neighbour reads the logs in their modem, there not going to catch you....Maybe just don't use all their bandwidth.
