Concrete Tile?

Hello! I am 100% new to the concrete game. I am actually looking to make custom concrete tiles for our tiny house bathroom. Do you have any insight on types of concrete, thickness, or any special tips for me, at all? I am looking for a pre-made silicone mold, to make my life easier, but if I am unable to find something in the right size, have you ever made your own silicone mold for customer pieces?

Thanks!

What a fun project to tackle, Tiffany!

Generally speaking, small tiles can be about 1" thick and be fine without any reinforcement. A silicone mold is the best option for repetitive casts. If you're looking for a particular shape, you're probably going to want to find a master tile and make your own silicone casts (here's a handy class all about casting and moldmaking). With your master, you can make a few molds and make casts.

However, I don't recommend this as a beginner project as there's a learning curve for both concrete and moldmaking, and that's not even tackling the installation!

A better option might be to buy concrete tiles from a store (big box stores have a few options) and do a small tiling project to get familiar with the materials and dial in what aesthetics you like. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but starting small gives the best chance to success for a beginner, rather than biting off a big project that can go sideways and remain unfinished.
