Connect power inverter's AC output to my home AC power

How can I connect a DC power inverter's AC output to my home AC power without a transfer switch so the inverter does not get damaged.  Connect it directly or with what ?

Forget what the others have said, - I get your drift.

I assume that this is to tap power into the home circuit duiring blackouts etc....

Put in an ISOLATION switch to DISCONNECT your MAINS supply from the HOUSE.

That is disconnect as in TOTALLY - active and neutral;

AND make the switch, a go / no go situation so that the power to the house is ONLY from the mains OR from the generator; and the accidental use of both - can be bad, as in just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad., up goes generator, home equipment, house and people - death, fire - the usual HUGE bills etc...

Then depending upon the amount of power that is needed, like to run a fridge and a computer, just reverse feed it back into the power point that your stuff is hooked up too.

It may pay to "map" the circuits in your house.

Remember the power limitations of the circuit tho.

BUT if you really need to use your generator during a black out, use a power board and some extension leads - much easier.
ONLY a grid connected inverter is suitable for this kind of connection, and they are designed to go OFF when the grid goes down, for the reasons Kelsey says. Once wrong move and people can DIE, since you can readily backfeed the line transformer.

No.  You cannot.  Look up "grid inverter" on Google.  You need to match voltage and phase, and you must be fully isolated so that, as noted by Re-design, you don't feed power to neighbors inside the last transformer circuit.

You can not connect it with out a transfer switch.

That would be a violation of the elect. code and very dangerous.

Think about what would happen if a line man turned off the power to hook up your neighbors line while your inverter was powering up the line.  He could get electrocuted and you would be the cause of it.

If you're going to do it please do it right.
