Doctor Who Style IR Pen With Left and Right click, Sound effects and other LEDs optional

So I want to make a "Gaming Screen" where my friends can interact with while I GM from a computer, and after doing some research, the best option would be to use the Wiimote technique.

To use that, I would have to make an IR pen, and guides for that are a dime a dozen, but I want to be different, not mundane.

My question is: Is there a way for me to make a wireless IR pen with two buttons that will left and right click respectively, and if it's possibie, have one color LED go off when one is clicked and another color when the other is clicked, with a possible inclusion of sounds?  To Doctor Who fans out there, I want to make my own version of the iconic Sonic Screwdriver that can be used as an IR pen.

If not, it would be okay if the other LEDs and possible sounds where activated by seperate buttons independent from the Left and Right clicks, or even if it all it can do is left and right click, I just want the two buttons, everything else is simply for fun.

There are instructables for both IR Pens and Sonic Screwdrivers. Figuring out how to get lights and sounds to trigger with a button should be easy enough. Everything you need for this project is already on the site, you'll just need to do a little digging and reading, some problem solving, and you should be able to figure this out. If you don't have any relevant experience or skills it will be a bit tougher.

You could butcher a mouse for the technology and rehouse it.

you have a lot of questions here how far have YOU got with this - What skills and experience do you have??
