Does anyone know a simple but effective battle bot for a beginner?

Hi, I'm a starter to the "battle bot" world. I've added stuff to rc cars but really I'm kind of a noob at it. So I'm just looking for a simple to make, possibly cheap and effective battle bot to make.

There was just an instructable about taking an rc car and just adding a motor to be a buzz saw and or etc.(requires separate battery I think?)

I like what Computothought said, and you could build up from that by looking at examples on youtube. You'd be amazed at what people can build.

Here's a website that has a lot of information on how to build a battle bot including planning a design etc.

Search for Sumo robots in general they are quite simple and often small.
