Does anyone know how to create a fairly realistic flame effect on a dress using fabric?

Hi everyone! :-)

I want to go to a fancy dress party as a Fire Goddess, but I'm a little stuck on finding the best way to make a fairly realistic flame effect for my dress.

I was thinking of starting with a black sheer mini-dress, then sewing various shades of two-tone organza on in small strips to look like dancing flames, to create a kind of 'flame vortex' effect. I know that's a really bad description, but hopefully this little picture I found might give you a better idea of what I mean:

I have no idea whether there is a better way to do this, so any suggestions or ideas would be very welcome. :-)
Thanks!

I think organza is a great idea since it does create a shimmering effect. Have you considered using EL wire or LEDs to light up the dress. Here is a link to a fire skirt which looks really good. https://www.instructables.com/id/Fire-Skirt!/#step0

Wow, that is such a great idea! I've never worked with EL wire before, so I'll have to look into it.

I think combining it with organza could give a really cool effect - maybe outlining the organza flames in EL wire... Thanks! :D
you could soak the dress in isopropyl, then just light it on fire :)
