Does anyone know if speed cameras have Infrared Filters?
Just curious, do speed cameras have IR filters.. is kind of a hard one to test this one, it would involve me driving through them and copping fines to see the pictures.
I have a project in mind that relies on them not have a Filter or a slight filter....

If the ones in Australia record video, then they probably don't have an IR filter, at least at night. Video cameras rely on infrared illumination to see in the dark and a filter would prohibit this. If this is the case, an IR filter might be engaged only during the day(think of "Nightshot Plus" on a Handycam).

To the best of my knowledge, speed cameras use TOF (time of flight) to calculate the speed of a captured vehicle.
An IR filter has little or nothing to do with it.

oh...I see...hadn't thought of that approach...I suppose he could always rig up a flap door that he could trip every time he goes thru a traffic light....

yeh well i was going to just wire them into the ignition so they are on all the time and since people cant see the light i should be fine in terms of being pulled over... also i believe the law only restricts the use of the microwave bandwidth, used by the speed guns and can be made in to jamming devise (in Australia) not infrared so i should fine in terms of going to jail

interesting solution, although I'm not sure how successful it will be..best of luck. I despise those damned cameras... and it's not because I speed on city streets (I don't as a general rule) but because of what they mean to the long term ideals of liberty and privacy. Ironic how so many of these devolutionary ideas come from members of the 60s gen and their children. doncha think?

Since Gatzos can take pretty clear pictures through fog, smoke and driving rain, I'd say they do.

but they might have a slight filter on them to filter out some wavelengths of the IR spectrum so id have to get the right LED

well yeh i was thinking of getting about 40 high intensity IR LEDs and mounting them all around the plate then hook them into the ignition, maybe a switch on the dash.
i guess the only way to figure this one out is to test it :S
maybe ill try with more LEDs... better to be safe than sorry..
