Does anyone know where I can buy metal belt pulleys in the New York City area? No luck on Canal street.

Need some metal pulleys for a project and can't find them here in NYC. I tried Grainger but they said they only sell to companies, not individuals. There used to be a motor store on Canal but he moved around the corner and got rid of his smaller stuff, parts, etc. Any info appreciated.

Don't they have any real hardware stores in NYC?

Canal street used to have lots of surplus and hardware, most of it's gone unfortunately. If anyone here is ever in the Winter Park Florida area(Orlando) check out Skycraft, it's the closest thing I've seen to the old surplus stores on Canal.

Try auto supply, depending on what kinds of belts you want to use.

Good idea. Someone also told me to try the repair/auto shops up and down 3rd avenue in the Sunset Park area. A slim chance that my old erector set is still in my parents garage, definitely some stuff in there. Now there's a good reason besides Turkey to go home for the holidays!

Are there any boating resources in the NYC area? If so, you might find them there (especially those that cater to the sailing crowd) Otherwise, I'd think most hardware stores would have metal pulleys. I can buy them at the local Home Depot.

those are rope pulleys, I need belt pulleys. I thought about taking a rope pulley apart but to much work. Thanks.
I thought harbor freight might carry some, but I can't find them on the website. Maybe call a local store ?
Ah... understood.

Thanks but I don't think they have a local outlet, I guess I'll have to order it.
McMaster doesn't have any physical stores, just warehouses (L.A., Chicago). They are not necessarily the cheapest, but they are, at least in the U.S., the best. Yeah, that's just my opinion. Their shipping charges are cheap to none, depending on what you're ordering.
