Does my inspiron 1501 have video out capability?

i know that it has the 15 pin vga on the back, but there is no s-video. i was just wondering if this could make my pc display on my tv.
any help is appreciated.

VGA signals are NOT directly compatible with rca composite/s video. That cable just splits out the rgb data but it's not compatible with regular tv's. It's compatible with a rare sub-breed of tv's that take in separate rgb signals (not to be confused with component video)...

so no. It won't.

You need something that actively converts the signal, like -- vga to composite

or -- vga to hdmi.

Sadly your options aren't in the 3 dollar range.
Alternately, VGA is interchangible with DVI -- so if your tv takes a dvi input you may be able to plug a vga>dvi adapter in and use that.

Alternately again, since hdmi and dvi are pin compatible - if the tv takes hdmi, you may be able to get a 'dumb' vga>hdmi cable.

thanks. i was hoping to get something cheaper, but price isn't really of any concern.
