ANSWERS : Technology

I would like to use my xbox 360 wired controller as a mouse on my laptop and got all the steps how to do so, but before I do this I would like to know if by doing this do I make the controller not usable as my xbox 360 controller?  Also if I can use it as both can i easily switch for PC to Xbox or will I have to go in and change controller settings everytime?
