HP Scanjet 2200c -- how can I make it work on my new computer?

This  is an older scanner, but there was nothing wrong with it when my old computer broke down, and I used it a lot.  HP does not provide updates for older scanners. I have heard that it can be updated without HP's help, but I'm not that experienced. I have installed the scanner program--still have the program CD-- but when I try to use it, it tells me that the scanner is being
accessed by another program.  It also tells me that it has stopped working. When I view problems details, it gives me this:

Problem signature:

And of course I don't know what all that means.

Try: 1. go to device manager 2. uninstall the scanner 3. select scan for hardware changes 4. let the computer reinstall detected device using default settings and generic drivers. Also make sure the old scanner program is not running in the background or automatically loading on start-up. 1. go to "run" 2. type: "msconfig" enter you will be able to see what programs load automatically at start-up and choose which ones you want. 3. Reboot Try accessing your scanner with a newer editing program on your computer. Depending on how old the scanner program is, it may not work well with your new system and need to be uninstalled. You probably have software already loaded that will work with your scanner using generic drivers.

Does it have drivers for your OS?
