How can I make my sons little tikes deluxe 2 in 1 roadsters wheels turnable?

Hi,

I just bought my son a little tikes 2 in 1 cozy roadster and it is extremely hard to turn. the wheels are set to be straight and u have to drag it left or right for it to turn.  I was wondering if there was a way to make my own kind of wheels so that it could turn a little better. it doesnt have to do a full 360 but at least make them turn a pinch just to help me steer it better for him.  Even if its just the two front wheels cuz really thats all i need.

I'm sure that the little tikes is simply made with a fixed center axle thats attached to the wheels, which by design is causing the limitations in steering. To overcome this, I would get a caster wheel and install it on the center front, underneath the toy, and simply leave the front 2 wheels as is. If you can get the right sized caster wheel, it will elevate the front just a tiny bit, so that you gain the steer-ability from the caster wheel, and then the front 2 wheels will act like training wheels and give some side to side stability. The key is to raise the front enough with the caster wheel.

Here's an extreme example of what I mean for a caster wheel, but it illustrates the function that you need, through the pivot point above the wheel.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Making the wheels actually turn looks like a major re-build.

You could try replacing the wheels with omniwheels instead?  Depending on the size you buy, they can run to tens of dollars apiece, but you'd only need to replace the front two wheels.

Or maybe you could make your own omniwheels?
