How can i sign up to be a beta tester for compaq?

Compaq is now part of HP. So I would suggest going to an HP website and inquiring there.
What sort of Compaq software did you want to beta-test and why Compaq?

compaq is my prefered brand, and i was hoping to test a computer system (ie get it free...).

Ah, no. I believe that all hardware development is done in-house. People outsource software because you never quite know what people will do with it. Beta-testers essentially find most of the bugs in something for free. Still, you could ask HP if they run any kind of giveaways... L
