The biggest problem is that if they're already made, felting will shrink them a great deal. For felting, you have to make the item specially large; or like many of the clothes in the childrens' dept. of my local thrift store, shrink them from adult sizes. Really, felting of pure wool items simply involves "ruining" them in the dryer on medium heat (keeping an eye on them periodically so they don't completely ball up.) There are likely already Instructables on the subject, but for really in-depth instructions and variations, books on it are easy to find in the knitting section in the library.
