How do I make a back up copy of the OS?

How do I make a back up copy, CD or DVD, of the OS of this new laptop? It's an ACER brand and came with Windows Vista insalled on it. I just want it just in case something happens. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide in this matter.

If the laptop didn't come with any disks; check the start menu for 'acer tools' or something along the lines- there should be a utility to burn a factory copy of a restore disk for the laptop. Check acer.com/support for details Otherwise; use any free backup software - an ubuntu linux live cd has the tools to do it (for free) check www.download.com, search for backup, and choose freeware!

One good way is to create a "Ghost" image. Essentially you copy the hard-drive as it is, so that in future you can scrub the whole thing and copy it back. IT departments use Ghost software to restore machines because it does everything in one operation.

(I'll look for some stuff)
