How do I make a rendering in Creative Suite CS2?

I want to create Product Design renderings in Creative Suite CS2, including Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, etc... I am a beginner in these programs with a knowledge of basic tools. Is it best to start out with a sketch and then translate into these programs? Is it best to use these programs alone or consecutively? If so what order?
