How do I make a water tight fish tank out of wood?

it must be fish friendly

I would build it from plywood and then fiberglass it.
Well a wooden barrel is water tight - no caulk at all.
Good call but I'd still be concerned the wood allowing growth of, stuff.
Gold fish (and Talapia) eat that stuff. I'd bet there are more.

Build your box out of wood the lay in two layers of 6 mil sheet poly. It's available at home centers and works very well in a situation like this. I did something like this to create a 500 gal. container to carry water to baby trees at the back of my lot.

Make sure the wood is sealed very well and use silicon or similar glue or caulk in all the joints. As far as fish friendly you're going to have to do some research as to what will and won't harm fish.
Why do you want a wood fish tank? Doesn't not being able to see the fish defeat the purpose? If it's a cost thing then just get a used tank off of Craigslist. It's highly likely people are just giving them away.

I am upgrading my bass, trout, and crayfish Aquaponic system this summer because I finally saved up enough to do my self sustaining Aquaponic system. so I need to be able to design it to my exact measures.
