finger positions: pointer: pointed up thumb: in contact with middle finger middle finger: in contact with thumb all others: let them go with the flow, don't force 'em to do anything apply a fair amount of force on the middle finger until it slides off and hits the base of your thumb. let all the other fingers go with it. for a newbie it would be trial-and-error. takes some practice so you'll eventually get better.

Its difficult to learn you can explain all you want and others will still not get it What happens when you snap is that you squeeze your middle and thumb together, your index slides off your thumb which hits your palm, right next to the thumb. Now this wont make a snapping noise so you have to place your ring finger, a little less than the width of your middle finger away from the thumb so its slightly in the point of impact.

mm i can snap but i tried what norsehorse said and coudn't. granted i'm no connoisseur of snapping. it's probably i method i just can't do. if find it easiest to use the ring finger and press it against the thumb until it bends and the upper segment of the finger completely presses against the thumb. then slide your ring finger down your thumb. when i want a louder sound i move my thumb in the up and away from the ring finger that is moving down to increase the energy.

Put your middle finger on your thumb then squeeze them together. Keep your middle finger straight and let it slap down onto your palm. Keep your ring and pinkie fingers curled like a fist.
