How do I transfer my tapes from my video camera to DVD on my Mac?

I have the right cable, I have imovie. When it says to import from camera do I have the tape running at the same time I select that option? Do I need to do more? Is this easy? Is it easy to import to YouTube once it is a DVD or do I do this right from imovie? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I feel like my brain is running on glue today, I just can't think.

I haven't used iMovie, but it should have a help section / manual.
Usually you click through options to a preview screen (on this type of software) then press play on the video source and hit record/stop to capture a clip. The last step should be a save-as, with options.
You don't want to save as a DVD - check your YouTube user account for it's guidance on video formats before you start.
