How is Java and JavaScript related?

Not very. Java was just getting hot when Javascript was introduced, so the latter stole the former's name in an effort to build buzz. Other than the fact that both are structured, object-oriented languages that took concepts from some of the same sources, and that both have been used in browser enviornments, they really aren't related. Learning one won't help you learn the other, except in that learning any programming language helps you learn to think in logical algorithms.
Both of these use Object Oriented Programming. This means that there are different parts that make up the script. They way they are structured are also pretty similar.

This is a link to a really nice info page.
