How to get rid of old multi-boot options? (Windows)?

I changed OS from XP to Windows 7, and have tried Ubuntu for a few weeks (forgot the password & user name, so it's useless, and DEFINITELY not for me!).

Everytime I turn on the computer, I get the choice between W7, 'Old windows', and Ubuntu (the folders of which I deleted).  How to get rid of this screen????

Easy one. Run msconfig from the Search box. Select the Boot tab, and delete the OSes that you want to get rid of.

Strangely enough, the other OSses do not appear in the boot tab of MsConfig...

Wow, that's weird. I would have sworn that there's no way to get a boot options screen without the options appearing in config.  But then, Windows works in mysterious ways. And it stops working in even more mysterious ways.

So true! I upgraded to W7 because XP started to become erratic and give more and more errors. W7 was not better at all. Turned out all was caused by a loose SATA cable!

Now if I only could get my DVD writer working again!!

If I had one chance to travel through time, I would waste it on going back to the early days of Windows development, find out whoever it was who designed the error-handling routines, and punch him right in the nose. Then I would buy a whole boatload of stock.
Anyway, sorry my suggestion didn't work. I bet Nacho or Plane's will. Good luck with the DVD burner, too.

You probably still have the Ubuntu boot manager (GRUB) on your computer, but that doesn't really matter.

Here are the directions from Microsoft's site. They'll take care of it.

1. Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

.  I don't know if this will work with Win7, but here's what MS says to do in XP.

.  IIRC, Ubuntu uses a different boot manager than Windows, but I can't recall the name.
