How to make a lock?

Does anyone know how to make a lock for a wooden box? I want one that will not be able to be picked.

Yes, I've got three, hope to be bothered to finish tomorrow; I'll let you know.

Locks for wooden-boxes, but I'm having problems with my camera at the moment.

Box-sized, and unpickable? Forget it.

Even if the lock proved to be unpickable, wooden boxes can be easily prised open with a crewdriver.

If you're trying to keep something secure, fit a wall-safe with a combination.

A wall safe wouldn't work. Too big and someone would steal it anyway.

Screwdriver, hammer, hatchet, prybar, any tool of opportunity including a big rock.

Just make a box that looks like it has a lock and is very secure. Hide it but not very well and put nothing in it. Put the valuables/secrets in an old shoe box in plain sight. No one will think twice about the shoe box when there is such an obvious place to keep things like a locked box.

This works best for things you want to keep hidden but aren't of extreme value or are absolutely irreplaceable. Don't keep the deed to your house like this.

Actually, I am going to make a mailbox for my small business. I DO NOT want someone to steal it because I live in a town where people would steal anything for money.
Why not just buy a locking mail box or get a PO Box? If you're really concerned about someone picking the lock on a locking mailbox just put a "Smile you're on CCTV" sticker on it.

Also you may want to check but I think mailboxes are regulated. The postal service won't put mail into just anything or else you could make fake mailboxes to steal mail.

A PO box wouldn't work. People need to put suggestions and orders in it, and a PO box wouldn't work for that.
Then it needs to be separate from the mailbox because only mail carriers are allowed to put items into a mailbox. Can you not just have a mail slot that allows both mail and other things to be put through from the outside?
