How to use a compound bow?

I am very much a beginner in archery. I was handed down a bow from a hunter who hasnt used it in 15 years. It was brought to a shop and adjusted to my size and a weight. I am trying to figure out how to use it effectivly and accurately. I do know that when you put the arrow on, it should be odd fin sticking away from the string. However, i am not sure if i should be putting the arrow above or below the small bead on the string. I use a peep sight and am trying to figure out how to sight in my pins the correct way.  ANY AND ALL information and tips (especially answering the questions above) would be appreciated! The main questions are do i put the knock of the arrow above the bead or below it and the other question is how do sight in my sights. The top pin is 15 yards and it is high 10 inches and left by like 2 feet for some reason when i try. Thank you!

you dont have to shoot without pins first

-the arrow goes below the bead (which is called a nocking point)
-you move the pins to adjust your sights but that one is real old if i were you id get a new one
-the arrow should be odd fletch down
- compounds are usually shot with a release not the fingers
-archery is basically repetition do the same thing over and over again and youll hit the same place over and over again
-my advice is to join your local club and get a new everything for that bow

YOu have to set the pins for the way you shoot.  If I set the pins for me then you use the bow you are not going to be able to use the pins to shoot with since we don't hold the arrow the same and there is  a different distance from the arrow up to our eyes.

YOu have to learn to shoot without the pins before you can use the pins.

Without seeing what you've got I'm just guessing.

The arrow should probably be above the bead.  It should be knocked on the string so that it is in the middle of the string.  That way the pull is even and the arrow should go straight.

It is important to pull the arrow back to the same position everytime.  I used to put my index finger at the corner of my mouth.  That way when you look at the peep sight it is aligned the same way every time.  I would suggest you shoot some without using the sight so that you have an idea of what's going on then start using the sight.

Are you shooting at a range where you could get some coaching.  That would really help you in the beginning.

Look at the instructables here and see what's on youtube.

Good luck.
