I need to get a hole in the bottom of a wine glass to put a string of lights in it..

I'd love to make some lighted wine bottles for a christmas present but have no idea how to easily (hopefully) get a hole in the back of the glass without shattering it. Any suggestions?

a glass cutting drill bit will cut through it like a hot knife through butter -- they are 10-20 dollars, and 'eye' shaped (pointed tip that rounds out towards the shank).

They cut through porcelain, glass, etc very easily, just go slowly with very light pressure and medium speed. Wear a respirator if you can and have someone vacuum the dust immediately -- glass dust sucks.
Find wine-glasses that have a bit of void under the base, mount the LED there to shine up the stem.
