I saved movies on my Direct-TV DVR (like a TiVo) and want to transfer them to my computer to burn a DVD - can I do that?

I have saved movies that take up a lot of space on the DVR and I want to save them but there is a limit to the space. I know how to copy it onto a VCR but would prefer it on a DVD. Since I don't have a DVR separate from the one with Direct-TV, I want to transfer it to my computer to burn DVD. Is there a way to do it? If so, how?

The dealdatabase.com forums are a treasure trove of information about this.

Dazzle was a cheap device that converted VCR video output (composite, not S-Video) to mpeg through the USB port I think. I had it a long time ago and I don't know if they still make them.
yes but dont know how...

I got a DVR with my bundle subscription (ph.inet/tv), but I haven't figured out how to do it directly yet either. The best solution I can offer at this point is a tv card for the PC, which you would then use like the vcr.
