If ghosts can walk through walls and glide down stairs, why don't they fall through the floor?

Ghosts float, they don't stand or walk on anything of substance.

Because ghosts tend to mimic human like behavior. They might travel through the floor if your house was buried on an old indian burial ground or something.

I think ghosts are made of ectoplasm and swirl around "stuff" and re-form somewhere else.

Theoretically (I know I didn't spell that right) they can pass through material items at will.
