"Zeitgeist" is a German word, originally, which means "the spirit of the time".

Basically, it means the mood of the moment, not just of one person, but of a whole community or population.

Here, on Instructables, it means what people are talking about at the moment; what projects are getting commented on at the moment, even if they are old.
That exactly it.  Doesn't get much better than that.
zeitgeist is a german pronunciation which means the spirit of the time or d sirit of the age reveals this spirit
it is a nice name

good answer kiteman and this is the best way to study history as well by getting into the "spirit of the age" by study of its art, music, politics, religion, food, industry etc etc. as opposed to just looking at a bunch of meaningless dates and events.

I thought it meant "go get another beer".
I second Re-design's interpretation!!

The term zeitgeist is from German Zeit- 'time' (cognate with English tide and "time") and Geist- 'spirit' (cognate with English ghost).

Quite simply, the Instructables listed under Zeitgeist are the ones that have been commented on most recently. :)

I thought it meant the weirdest ones.. or something along those lines.

...or in real terms: The site uses "robots" to select site-content that is currently receiving attention based upon page-hits, comments etc. These are packaged under the Zeitgeist heading as Kiteman describes.

Hello and welcome!
