Is it possible to DIY an ipod car adapter. (one of the ones that plays through the cars radio)

If you're not sure what i mean, It takes the ipods audio signal and broadcasts on a radio frequency that is then picked up by the car and played through the cars sound system. I really would like one but dont want to pay $50

Some note:
-I have a limited but understanding knowledge of electronics and can learn new concepts easily
-It would be best if this could be made from parts from around the house as i tend to have a limited supply to electronic components (i do have access to old machines like printers and an old computer tower and then a bunch more that i can scrap for parts)

Also, I could probably find an old radio somewhere as im sure that would help

Websearching "IPod FM transmitter" finds many under $50, some under $30.
And websearching "fm transmitter circuit" finds many circuit diagrams. Any which take line-level or headphone-level input should work with the iPod.

Which is a more direct answer to your question: Yes it's possible, and those document how.

It probably isn't worth trying to reuse parts from old machines.

Dealextreme.com sells these sorts of things quite cheap, I am sure I have seen what you are describing somewhere on their site.

If your radio has a cassette player there is this one:

And just a note, I have seen the iPod cassette adapters at places like dealextreme for a couple of dollars.
