Is there any way to turn a laptop LCD into a desktop through dvi or vga?

I have a dead newer laptop with a perfect 15.4" widescreen that would be a great second monitor. I just don't know if its possible to convert it over to a stand alone. Even HDMI would work I have the converter cables and what not.

There is an Instructable for this here. If the laptop still works, there is software that can do it here, though it is $30.

Well, then you will need a controller for LCD screen. This can be purchased between $200 and $700, unless you make your own. Here is an interesting site that briefly describes how to make your own. You can also check out the Instructable that I mentioned earlier, here, which shows you how to use a laptop as a second monitor if you still have a functioning motherboard, power brick, etc.
