I've Always Wanted To Know.........??

On Instructables:-

Who rates an Instructable?/How?
Who decides which is the Best Answer--the author?

What is an Altoids tin?
What is Arduino?
What Knex?
_

.....what does the acronym: AFAIK stand for?
How do you write in that small text?

(Why do people remember other things they want to ask after they have posted/ gone offline/ put the phone down/ or finished a conversation???).

Any member can rate any rate-able thing - by clicking on the stars above the author information.

The author and only the author can decide best answers. I wish we had a facility to vote for which...

EASILY googleable answers:
Altoids are a type of mint. They come in tins.
Arduino is a microcontroller prototyping environment (somewhat for noobies like myself) www.arduino.cc
What knex what? Knex is an engineering construction toy. You can follow the instructions and build...anything from cars to roller coasters.

afaik = as far as I know

Look for the text formatting instructable for making all sorts of text.

Surround text with 2 commas on each side to make subscript
surround text with 2 carats on each side for superscript.

People rush. Slow down, think, then communicate. Communicating then thinking will result in problems.
"Communicating then thinking will result in problems."

As I've had to remind myself from time to time: "WARNING: Always engage mind before putting fingers in gear. Failing to do so may result in severe damage to reputation."
whoops...only one carat. its shift 6 on a north american keyboard.

Is this a technical or sarcastic comment? I genuinely would like to know.

BTW, you'll generally get better answers faster if your main question says what it's about. (Specifically: The "on instructables" should probably have been there, to draw the attention of folks who have the most knowledge and/or stronger opinions on that particular set of topics. (Re parody: You sorta started that chain, with your final parenthetical; you have only yourself to blame. At least they took it to a separate question rather than cluttering up your own answers with the digression.)

No I didn't. That was not a shot, I was having a little laugh at myself, and the frustrating knack of remembering something after the opportunity is lost (at the time), to get an answer. As for the tip about how I should have titled my question, isn't that a minor point? God knows my answers did come in fairly fast didn't they?! And let's be honest;-correct title or not, they would have been what they are so far. I appreciate the sincerity of your advice orks, believe it or not, but I came to 'Answers' for some....er, answers, and got precisely the same ridicule that seems prevalent on Instructables. I make a lousy target though, I promise you that.
orksecurity Z..7 years ago
No ridicule intended, just a thought on how to avoid attracting the wrong kinds of attention in the future. And I don't think folks intended to laugh at you, but with you; I don't think you were shot at. But I can't entirely blame you for reacting that way. Scarcastic humor on the net is often misread as non-humorous. I've had to learn to edit myself since I too lean in that direction.

Given that you experienced regulars are having a little fun with this, (even to the extent of a parody no less), let me mention that this is the first time that I've seen a 'best answer' facility on posts.

I've asked one other question,-I don't recall seeing it then?

And at the risk of further ridicule (a common thing on Instructables, no?), I can't see any stars on the right??

Have fun; but not for too long. I'll "be nice" ;...........for a short while anyway. I don't like this for others, and I won't take it for myself.

I've figured the stars thing out. (I see this stuff, but did not know what and how).
Re-design Z..7 years ago
When you asks yo question yo gotta take what yo gets. I thought you questions were answered pretty well. My "parody" of your question are all legitimate questions that I had been wondering. I'm sorry if you took offense at my asking them. But it is an open forum.
Z.. (author)  Re-design7 years ago
I've answered yo on yo now severely pruned parody. That'll do.

Thank-you. I think. Is the 'Select as Best Answer' box...er, window, something that now comes up automatically, or is there a collective paking of the tiss? Thanks Lemonie.
orksecurity Z..7 years ago
The select box comes up automatically for the author of the question. Instructables does send out a pestering note if too much time goes by without a best answer being picked.
Re-design7 years ago
Both great answers. Can't add a thing. That reminds me of a question I wanted to ask.

Interesting.
