Just picked up an old Apple monitor. I don't use Apple anything, so what can I do with it?

Found this in my local Fred Meyer parking lot.  No one was around to claim it (this was close to closing hour), so I picked it up, knowing I could do something with it, but now not sure what.  I can recycle it, and if I do, I'll be removing the enamel-coated wire around the tube, but I wanted to see if anyone here has other ideas

sell it or figure out a way to get money out of it or you could find out "how many throws does it take to break an old apple?" but then again there are people who have made fish tanks out of moniters of that nature (bulky and boxy)
With the right cable or adapter it should plug into a PC just fine.  However, CRT monitors are basically worthless these days.  I couldn't even give away a bunch of good working 17" and 19" monitors, so they went straight to the recyclers.

It's slightly possible that if you wait 10 or 20 years people will be nostalgic for CRT monitors and they'll be worth something again.

If you can remove the guts without releasing toxic waste, use the case as a planter or put a glass window instead of the screen and use it as a display cabinet for some collectibles.
You can probably find an adapter that would let you hook it up to a PC, if a second monitor would be something you could use.

BTW, are you in Portland? I miss Portland....

Liking this suggestion.  And since you mention this, I do have an xbox with a dying tv...  might just use that for the console.  That is, if it even works, I don't even know that, yet

If it doesn't, then, I'll follow re-design's suggestion, and strip it down.  I know the enamel-coated wire can be used in part for making a stator coil for a homebuilt windmill

Is it one of the nice white-and-grey or white-and-blue CRT monitors?  If so, you could make a nice aquarium or terrarium.  Or maybe an herb garden!

If you don't discharge the picture tube you may be in for a shocking discovery.  Google "discharge picture tube" to find out how to do that.  Breaking it is dangerous also as it will implode and glass shards fly in all directions.

There are a few parts you can take out of it but that's about all.  Most of the parts on the card have the leads cut so short that they are not very useful.

Good luck.

If it still works, sell it.  Easy money.
